Great episode with lots of good bear hunting advice. I especially benefited from the spot and stalk talk because I’m headed to Montana in May/June just for that. Being from Maine, where we don’t have a spring season, or any open areas, there is virtually no spot and stalk bear hunting. It’s all over bait, or incidental on deer stands.

As far as the discussion on baiting went it was all great advice and applicable anywhere, but there is a big part of that discussion it appears hunters from Western states just don’t engage in; ScentLok suits. I wouldn’t get in a tree stand near a bear bait without one. If you can’t wear it in cause you’ll get sweated up, you can pack it in and don it some distance from the stand. It works. If you haven’t tried it, and used it properly (a whole notha discussion) then save the critique. If you have, then you know it works.

Russ, you are bad-ass man. I admire your effort. You want to kill more big bears? Try on some Scent Lok and you’ll be able to hunt a stand multiple times without messing it up, and the Bears won’t wind you no matter where they come from.

    Good luck!
